  • Fountain Hobby Center in Charleston, W.Va., closed its doors. It had been in business since the early 1960s.
  • Golden Distribution appointed Phil Lacefield Jr. to the position of sales manager. Before this he worked with WizKids, Agents of Gaming, and others.
  • Ultra PRO International hired Jeff Smorey as its new sales manager. Ultra PRO recently released game accessories for The Legend of Zelda and The Walking Dead.
  • Mara Johannes-Graham was hired as Greater Than Games’ new sales and marketing director. Greater than Games’ latest release is Lazer Ryderz.
  • Tim Lenaghan was promoted to vice president of purchasing at Diamond Comic Distributors. Lenaghan will lead the company’s two purchasing divisions in finding new products.
  • The University of Wisconsin-Madison chose cartoon artist and author Lynda Barry as the first recipient of the Chazen Family Distinguished Chair in Art. Barry is the creator of Ernie Pook’s Comeek, a nationally syndicated comic strip.
  • Comic artist Steve Dillon passed away in October at the age of 54. He collaborated on the Hellblazer comic book and co-created Preacher. He also co-founded Deadline magazine in 1988.
